Denise flies the flag in Sydney

One of my favourite things about these Olympics has been watching Denise Lewis on the studio cam during the events wildly screaming her fellow athletes over the line.

Her passion for sport is undiminished since retiring in 2005 and her enthusiasm as a pundit has been unmatched at these Olympics. Her graceful praise for Jessica Ennis was touching and genuine without a hint of bitterness at being usurped from her place as our last female gold winning heptathlete, which shows she's not just a ferociously talented athlete but a lovely person too.

Unlike many athletes who can appear sober, and let’s be honest rather dull, Denise continues to show she doesn’t take herself too seriously despite her enormous talent. Plus she knows how to move, remember the way she ripped up the floor on Strictly Come Dancing only to be narrowly beaten in the final by Jill Halfpenny. 100% Olympic legend.
