Today is Blogging Against Disablism Day, an event organized to explore ableism/disablism and their larger social impacts worldwide. Disability hate crimes are just one of the many issues faced by the disability community.
I'm a 29 year old female. I eat mainly vegan and eat lots of organic veggies. I don't drink alcohol, I don't smoke, I have never done drugs. I've been diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, PCOS, life threatening allergies and for my last birthday I got a busted thyroid.
They seem to think they're joking around when they ask me how many fingers, or if I can smell them from across the room, but to me it feels similar to the bullying I experienced on the playground as a child.
I know that eventually, I’m going to have to ask this person I’ve been in a screaming match with for three hours to take me to the bathroom, which can be really awkward. “You can be such a douchebag! That said, I have to pee.”
