Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel

The trailer paints a picture of a larger than life figure who partied with Andy Warhol, Cher and Jack Nicholson and dragged stuffy, snobbish fashion magazines into the modern age.

Not only was she an innately stylish lady, but a very wise one to boot. Here are some of my favourite quotes from the woman known simply as ‘Mrs Vreeland’.

On Vulgarity

"Vulgarity is a very important ingredient in life. I'm a great believer in vulgarity- if it's got vitality. A little bad taste is like a nice splash of paprika. We all need a splash of bad taste- it's hearty, it's healthy, it's physical. I think we could use more of it. No taste is what I'm against."

On being an editor

"I think part of my success as an editor came from never worrying about a fact, a cause, an atmosphere. It was me - projecting to the public. That was my job. I think I always had a perfectly clear view of what was possible for the public. Give 'em what they never knew they wanted."

On living in the moment

“But don’t think you were born too late. Everyone has that illusion. But you aren’t. The only problem is if you think too late.”

Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel opens in cinemas on 21st September during London Fashion Week.
