…Why yes, I do have something on my face! I thought I'd do a regular update on products I'm using and loving, that maybe don't need an entire article all of their own, but are fabulous enough to recommend. I cycle through products a lot, and am always excited to try the next new thing, so maybe this will even serve to jog my memory in the future!
Okay, now, I don't want to get anyone's hopes up, but I feel like I might have stumbled upon the Perfect Face Formula. (Don't tell anyone! No, wait, DO!)
It goes like this… Apply Hourglass primer, put on Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer with a foundation brush, dot on Kat Von D concealer underneath eyes, powder T-zone only (forehead, nose, chin), and then I spray my face with Mario Badescu Facial Spray. I know, it sounds deceptively simple -- but it's more than the sum of its parts. Viz:
Best primer ever. I think I have mentioned this before, but it is truly magnificent, and worth the extravagant price tag.
I've owned this for years and didn't like it the first couple of times I wore it, so I hid it in one of my boxes of cosmetics. When I did a huge clean out about a month ago, I decided to try it again. And I am so glad I did! Now, please note, despite its oil-free-ness, it definitely imparts a "dewy" complexion. This has typically been my worst nightmare, HOWEVER, if you powder your T-zone, you won't have this problem and instead you will just look gorgeous and glowy.
I can't remember if I mentioned it in that post about looking expensive, but in the make-up chapter, the woman recommended wearing tinted moisturizer instead of a full face of goop. She was right. I have seen the light! Hallelu! (P.S. Season 4 of "RuPaul's Drag Race" was just added to Netflix and you better BELIEVE I am relishing every goddamn moment.)
[I really REALLY want to love tinted moisturiser, but it always makes me look a bit greasy and blotchy. Am I doing it wrong? Or do I need to try a different brand? What's the answer Gala? TELL ME! ]
This is SERIOUS concealer. If you have dark circles under your eyes, then run, don't walk, to your nearest Sephora and pick up a tube. I like Bobbi Brown's creamy concealer a lot, but I go through it insanely quickly and then I am just sitting around staring sadly at an empty palette, while tears dribble past my unconcealed dark circles. Don't suffer this fate!
The Lock-It Tattoo Concealer smells like paint and has a great consistency, though I must warn you that it MIGHT (read: definitely will) emphasize any fine lines under your eyes. This is not the best thing ever, but sometimes it just comes down to a choice between lines or circles. I think that the Mario Badescu Facial Spray helps diminish the appearance of those creases, though.
I think this facial spray is the extra special bit of the whole routine. No joke, this Facial Spray is a MAGICAL ELIXIR. It softens your makeup, making it look less heavy and a little more lived-in and natural. It is fab for anyone who suffers from mild pancake face, otherwise known as Too Much Powder Syndrome. I really think you need to try it. I know that it basically sounds like nothing-in-a-bottle, but please trust. It is exquizz.
P.S. If you would like proof of the Perfect Face Formula, click here and watch this video. I can't really think of a better way to show you. But look, there is my face without Photoshop or filters!
Too Faced eye shadows Vanilla Sugar, Mocha Ice and Ganache (from the Love Sweet Love set)
Okay, I didn't mention this as part of the Perfect Face Formula, but they are my new obsession so they deserve a mention. I have been using these three colors EVERY DAY since I got them. And YES, they are three shades of golden brown. Shock, horror! But they are so good. Maybe I really did take that "How To Look Expensive" book to heart?!
This mini-sized liner came in the Love Sweet Love box set, and it's gorgeous. Obviously, a pencil looks much less harsh than a liquid liner, and for some reason, I am into softness right now.
My new favorite pink lipstick, and a cult favorite for a bloody good reason. That reason? ULTIMATE PINKNESS. Go and swipe a little bit on your mouth. You'll feel better!
Best of all, IT'S NOT JUST ME! Your intrepid xoJaners put stuff on their face too. I asked them about it, and they spilled their current favorites, just like I knew they would!
Marianne: Please don't laugh, but I got a sample of this moisturizer with plant stem cells and between this and the Yes to Blueberries face wipes, I'm in skin care heaven. I HATE moisturizers because they always make my face feel slimy but this one doesn't. And it's a gajillion dollars cheaper than the Bobbi Brown Face Base that I otherwise use when I use moisturizer.
Phoebe: As it's finally feeling all frosty and autumnal here in London and the leaves are starting to turn, I've swapped my normal Russian Red MAC lipstick for a rich berry-brown shade -- DuWop's Private Red -- which feels more season-appropriate, both in terms of beauty trends (berry and wine shades were all over the A/W catwalks) and just because I love its slightly '90s grungey/Courtney Love/PJ Harvey vibe!
Madeline: Clinique chubby sticks -- i like pudgy peony. They're moisturizing and don't require as much precision and attention as lipstick. BeautyMint Ultra Replenishing Serum -- I put it on before bed over my retinol treatment and it plumps and hydrates my skin while I sleep (but is still really really light), sorta preventing the drying effects of the retinol. I've no idea if this is the intended use, but I really like it.
Olivia: I am obsessed with Physicians Formula liquid eyeliner with the lash serum.
Kate Conway: I don't wear makeup super often on the daily, but benefit cha cha tint makes it look like I haven't been staying up all hours of the night all the time! It actually gives me some color, which prevents people from worriedly asking if I have consumption.
Julieanne: 1) Clinique all about eyes eye de-puffer! 2) microdermabrasion crystals! they are INCREDIBLE. 3) Boscia no-pores shine treatment 4) Anastasia clear mascara/gel. If you do them all together you can go makeupless!
Lesley: L'oreal Voluminous False Fiber mascara. I am usually a big old snob about drugstore mascara but I am in love with this stuff -- it makes my lashes explode, plus it comes in a huge pointy shiny gold tube that I described to Marianne as looking like a shiv in a musical about a prison full of drag queens.
Hannah: Skin Trip body lotion, smells amazing and stays on my skin all day. Bourjois Rose Exclusif lip gloss, it transforms to the pH of your lips to make a custom shade and leaves behind a slight rosy stain. Super pretty. There's this Vitamine and Sea facial spray I keep using constantly to basically keep me alive. Whenever I feel myself fading I spritz my face. I am so addicted to face sprays! I have like 4 other ones I love too haha. Oldie but a goodie, I will never give up my love for Diorshow Iconic mascara. It is the only mascara I can really deal with. I have been using Coastal Scents Eclipse concealer palette to blend custom shades, hide dark circles and expertly cover my acne scars. Love it.
Somer: Oooh, I recently fell in love with Garnier's Skin Renew Miracle Skin Perfector -- a cheaper alternative to more expensive BB creams. I use it in Medium/Deep. It evens out my skin and doesn't feel heavy. Love it. I also recently rediscovered Laura Mercier's Secret Camouflage concealer-- a product I used for years and then sort of forgot about. It's the best! You can mix the two shades together to cover up nearly anything.
Rebecca: I've managed to almost can wearing foundation (which is unheard of for me), since I started using Ren Omega 3 serum -- my skin is obsessed with it.
